Riding a motorcycle in and around Columbus, Ohio can be a very rewarding and exciting experience, weather permitting. It can also be a risky one as well.
Road Hazards
All too often accidents happen beyond our ability to control. From riding over unseen chemical spills, loose gravel, bumps and ridges in the pavement to other drivers encroaching and crowding our space, the opportunities for a bike accident is only a split-second away.
In the event of a motorcycle accident, the damage inflicted on us riders tend to be more serious than had we been in a car at the time simply because our bikes don’t afford us the same protection as a metal cab.
Protective Clothing
As a cyclist, the only protection we have, besides good judgement and riding skills, is our helmets and clothing. While this is certainly better than nothing, it never seems to be enough to prevent complete bodily harm.
Most motorcycle accidents, even low speed crashes, will likely cause major injury to the rider’s knees, ankles, shoulders, elbow, hands and/or back. Whiplash, broken bones, internal bleeding and head trauma can also occur even while driving less than 10mph. High speed motorcycle crashes will likely cause the same and perhaps much worse, possibly death.
